How much does a BrightShelf® system cost?

BrightShelf® is very cost competitive to traditional light shelves. Because our light shelves come pre-fabricated and are simple to install, most cost savings result from the installation. Because installation costs vary from region to region, we suggest obtaining installation costs from your installing contractor. How much energy savings can I expect from my BrightShelf®?

There are many factors that go into the overall energy efficiency of a daylighting system. These factors include project location, orientation, type & efficiency of lighting and HVAC, etc. The most accurate way to answer this question is to input BrightShelf® in to an overall building energy model. You can download 3D models from our Technical Information Page. From there, your lighting designer can utilize the BrightShelf® models to collect the necessary data from the overall builidng model.

Will my storefront or curtain wall adequately support the BrightShelf®?

BrightShelf® is one of the lightest light shelves on the market today. The curved nature enables the use of very thin materials with no intermediate spars. The BrightShelf® weighs 18.9 lbs for an average 5’-0” wide window spacing. We have sucessfully installed projects on both Curtain Wall and storefront sytems in the past. Ultimately, this question is best asked of your glazing contractor, but you will most likely find that BrightShelf® is much lighter than your curtain wall providers similar products.

What colors are available?

Two color options are available: Anodized Silver, and White. Please see our product offering page for more finish information. Typically White is chosen when it is desired for the system to blend into the ceiling, and Anodized Silver is chosen when it is desired to match the clear anodized finish of the glazing system.

How do I specify a BrightShelf® system in my project?

You can download a 2004 CSI Master format specification section as a word document by visiting our Technical Information Page

Can BrightShelf® be curved in plain view?

No, although the BrightShelf® is optically curved in section, the plan view or length of the shelf cannot be curved or trapezoidal shaped since the rotational clip mechanism wouldn't function, and the shelf would not be able to be inserted in the clips.

Can BrightShelf® be mitered around corners?

No, this would make the rotational feature not function properly. Also there is really no functional reason to have a light shelf go around a corner.

How much recycled content is BrightShelf® made from?

Based on the LEED MR credit 4 formula

Total post consumer recycled content weight + ( ½ total pre-consumer recycled weight) = 36%

To calculate total % of recycled content according to LEED you multiply this percentage by the total installed price to gain a recycled content %. For every $100 spent on BrightShelf® $36.00 is attributable toward your recycled content figures.

Where can I buy BrightShelf®?

BrightShelf® is normally purchased and installed through general, glass/glazing, window shading, or ceiling contractors. You may also contact H&H Enterprises, Inc - Architectural Metals for a material quote.

What types of cleaners may be used on BrightShelf®

BrightShelf® utilizes a highly reflective lighting sheet. We recommend periodic cleaning of any dust, dirt, or fingerprints that may inhibit the performance of the shelf surface. Download a maintenance & care guide for more information from our Technical Information Page for a list of acceptable cleaning agents and practices.
